Power Apps · canvas apps

Apps your team actually enjoys using.

Canvas apps are my strength: custom interfaces tailored to your workflow - at your desk, on a tablet on the shop floor, or on a smartphone at the customer's site. Fast, easy to navigate, and built to remain maintainable three years from now.

  • Canvas apps for desktops, tablets, and smartphones
  • Components you can reuse instead of copying
  • Performance considered from the start

01Use cases

What I use Power Apps for

Requests and approvals

Capital expenditure, vacation, purchase, or travel expense requests with multi-stage approval, delegation, and a complete history.

Field sales and service

Capture maintenance logs, checklists, photos, signatures, and location directly on site - including on a smartphone.

Master data and administration

Maintain items, contracts, devices, licenses, or training records centrally instead of in scattered Excel files.

Production and warehouse

Production feedback, inspection reports, material movements, and barcode scans at the machine or in the warehouse.

Apps in Microsoft Teams

The app as a tab in the Teams channel: right where your team already works together.

Replacing legacy applications

Move Access databases, Excel macros, InfoPath forms, or Lotus Notes applications into a modern app.

02What I focus on

Quality you notice in everyday work.

User interface

User-friendly instead of a "form with buttons"

An app only gets used if it feels good. I design canvas apps with clear navigation, a consistent design in your colors, understandable messages, and as few clicks as possible.

I build recurring elements such as menus, dialogs, tables, filters, and cards as components - built once, the same in every app. That saves time, keeps apps consistent, and allows changes to be made in one place.

  • Responsive for all devices
  • Reduced accessibility barriers
  • Visual identity
  • Reusable components

Performance

Fast - even with lots of data

The most common causes of slow apps are non-delegable queries, too many controls, and unnecessary data access at startup. I build apps from the outset with delegation, lean formulas, targeted caching, and concurrent loading.

I analyze existing apps with Monitor and App checker and make them measurably faster.

  • Delegable queries
  • Concurrent and named formulas
  • Lean app startup
  • Analysis of existing apps

Maintainability

Built so your team can carry on

Consistent naming, commented formulas, components instead of copies, configuration via environment variables, and everything packaged in solutions. Plus documentation that explains why something is built the way it is.

  • Naming conventions
  • Solutions and environment variables
  • Versioning
  • Technical documentation

03Approach

From the first conversation to a solution in production.

Consulting and implementation from a single source: whoever writes the concept also builds it - with no friction between consultant and developer.

  1. Initial consultation

Free and without obligation via Microsoft Teams: What is the challenge, what is the goal, and which licenses do you already have? Afterward, you will know whether and how the Power Platform fits your needs.

  2. Process analysis

Together with the people who run the process every day: How does it work today, and where do manual handoffs between systems or media, delays, and errors occur?

  3. Solution concept

Data model, screens, flows, permissions, and licensing - in writing, easy to understand, and with a clear effort estimate.

  4. Implementation in stages

Short iterations, each with a working interim result. You see early on what is being built and can adjust course.

  5. Rollout and handover

Acceptance, deployment to production, documentation, and handover to your team - so the solution does not depend on me.

  6. Further development

If you wish, I will continue to support the solution afterward: enhancements, new requirements, and updates from Microsoft.

Specialist retailer of fireplaces and stoves with delivery and installationsince 02/2022 Order processing for a stove retailer with Power Apps and SharePoint For almost five years, I developed the central order processing system for a fireplace and stove retailer with several companies and locations, based on SharePoint, Power Automate, and Power Apps, and I still support it today. Quotes with digital signatures, invoices and payment reminders via sevDesk, Planner tasks, customer surveys with Forms, Power BI, and a mobile installation report on tablets all work together. It determines which inspection characteristics are due for each machine, part, and inspection trigger, evaluates measured values against tolerances, and stores the results in an auditable form in SharePoint, with versioning and restricted editing rights. 06Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between canvas apps and model-driven apps?
With canvas apps, you design the interface freely, pixel by pixel - ideal for mobile apps and clearly guided processes. Model-driven apps are generated from the data model in Dataverse and are suited to extensive case processing with many tables and relationships. A combination often makes sense.
Can apps built with Power Apps work offline?
Yes, with limitations. Canvas apps can cache data locally and synchronize it later - with Dataverse, there is a built-in offline capability. I clarify in advance whether that is sufficient for your use case.
How much data can an app on SharePoint handle?
SharePoint lists work well with hundreds of thousands of items when queries are delegable and columns are indexed. For complex relationships, many concurrent writes, or fine-grained permissions, Dataverse is the better choice.
Can you take over and improve an existing app?
Yes. I analyze the app, document its current state, and suggest improvements - from quick performance improvements to a structured rebuild.
